Millinery at the Met

Millinery at the Met

It may have been over a week ago, but I still find myself scrolling through the photos from last weeks Met Gala. I have a feeling I’m not the only one! It’s an event that so many look forward to every year and it keeps getting better and better.

This years theme was ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ and here are my favourite headpieces from the night.

Gemma Chan dressed in Tom Ford, wore an elaborate silver headpiece inspired by style icon Elizabeth Taylor.

Gigi Hadid and Emily Blunt in Michael Kors and the Millinery master Stephen Jones.

Of the pieces he created Stephen Jones said “For Gigi I wanted to create the ultimate glamorous hat so we used a similar shape to the hats I made for Michael’s last show but we covered it in glitter. There has to be some sparkle on the red carpet.”

And Emily’s golden headpiece, “when designing for Emily for the Met Ball, I was keeping that in mind—what would Mary Poppins like to wear to a ball?”

Cardi B dressed boldly by Thom Browne and Stephen Jones, with ruby nipples nonetheless!!

Julia Garner dressed by my favourite Zac Posen. He’s always exploring new and innovative ways to create his designs. This year he made a 3D-printed vine headpiece that includes leaf and berry embellishments. It's printed as a single piece with brass plating, and took over 22 hours to make in North Carolina.

Queen Celine Dion in Oscar de la Renta and milliner Noel Stewart. In a dazzling champagne-colored bodysuit, she finished of her look with a gold-tinted feather headpiece of singed peacock feathers.

Standout Millinery of the night has to go Janelle Monae Christian Sirianoin and an incredible arrangement by Sarah Sokol Millinery. Four felt hats precariously stacked on one another, this piece is totally genius.

Who was your favourite of the night?
