Real Bride - Jess

Real Bride - Jess

I first met Jess back in January 2018 after she reached out to me through Instagram. We met in a little cafe in North Melbourne to discuss making her bridal headpiece. The special element of her request was that she wanted use her Mother’s wedding headpiece as the base.

Immediately, I knew that I had to make this piece for her. It was such a beautiful moment sitting in that cafe with Jess and her Mother, seeing the original headpiece and discussing how to transform this into something for Jess to wear on her wedding day. I love traditions and the idea of passing down treasured items from generation to generation. It makes the finished product that much more special.

Jess wanted a contemporary piece do go with the modern dress that she had custom made by an incredible couture designer, Holly Butler.

We played around with the idea of pearls and metallic accents, we looked at gold leaf charms, metallic beads and even triangle shapes. There were so many ideas explored, but ultimately the design chosen was the original headpiece reshaped and adorned with a cluster of ivory Swarovski pearls

The nerves before I had to cut up the original headpiece were particularly high, but I took a deep breath and snipped.

The final piece, once finished, looked so delicate and knowing the history behind it and seeing it transformed into a brand new headpiece was one of my highlights from 2018.

Thank you Jess for trusting me with creating this, it was such an incredible experience to work with you on this piece.

If you want to see more photos from this beautiful wedding, then you can, as it’s been featured in the Summer 2019 issue of EverAfter Magazine.
